Weather alert: Heavy rain, lightning to lash several Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: The Regional MeT Centre today predicted that heavy rain accompanied with lightning is likely to lash several parts of the state today.
Issuing Orange Warning, the weathermen said light to moderate rain with one or two intense spells of rain is likely to affect some parts of districts like Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Khordha (including Bhubaneswar city) and Nayagarh during next three hours.

Heavy rain may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas while occasionally poor visibility may cause traffic disruption in urban areas. The weathermen advised people to avoid movement in affected areas. Officials concerned have directed to ensure arrangements for drainage of excess water.

Besides, the MeT Centre issued Yellow Warning for districts like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Ganjam and Gajapati districts. Light to moderate rain is very likely to occur over some parts of the said districts during next three hours.

“People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike,” the weathermen cautioned.
