Weather alert! Heavy rain to lash these Odisha districts in next 24 hours

Bhubaneswar: Even as the deep depression over Bay of Bengal crossed north Odisha coast yesterday, heavy rainfall likely to lash interior districts in next 24 hours.

“Deep depression has weakened to depression and now lies over northeast Chhattisgarh. Under its influence, six districts of interior Odisha likely to experience heavy rainfall in next 24 hours,” the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said today.

The six districts included Sundergarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.

Besides, light to moderate rainfall may occur at few places over some districts in Odisha today.

However, no warning has been issued from tomorrow.

The fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea for next two days.

Even after incessant rain due to deep depression, Odisha still registers minus 16% deficit rainfall.

“The rainfall has improved in Odisha due to low pressure and deep depression over Bay of Bengal. The rainfall deficit, which was minus (-) 32 percent in Odisha, reduced to minus (-) 16 percent,” said Bhubaneswar MeT weather scientist Laxmikant Giri.

Following incessant rain, the flood like situation may occur in Kalahandi district. The water level of many rivers in south districts of Odisha has also increased and it will trigger flood like situation there, he added.
