Weather Alert: Heavy to very heavy rain to lash Odisha in next 24 hrs

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre today predicted heavy to very heavy rain in 16 districts in the State in next 24 hours under the influence of a low pressure area likely to be formed over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood.

As per the latest weather bulletin, the cyclonic circulation over north Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify strengthen into a low pressure area in next 48 hours. Under its impact, heavy to very heavy rain accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning will lash districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj in next 24 hours. The district administrations have been instructed to remain alert to avoid any kind of eventuality.

Similarly, eight other districts of north Odisha like Angul, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Puri and Khordha will experience heavy rain during the period.

Besides, fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast and northwest Bay of Bengal from September 5 evening till September 7 morning.
