Weather alert: Thunderstorm warning issued for 17 Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre today issued thunderstorm warning for as many as 17 districts of Odisha.

The districts likely to be affected are Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kandhamal, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack, Nayagarh, Puri and Bhadrak.

“Latest doppler weather radar and satellite imageries indicate that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and moderate rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kandhamal, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack, Nayagarh, Puri and Bhadrak between 3.45 pm and 7.45 pm,” a bulletin of the Meteorological Centre said.

On the other hand, a low pressure area is likely to develop over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around August 19, which would trigger rainfall across Odisha.
