Weather conditions likely to improve in Odisha districts from March 22 onwards

Bhubaneswar: With a trough aloft now running from northeast Uttar Pradesh to east Vidarbha, weather conditions are likely to improve in Odisha districts and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of the State from March 22 onwards, India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted today.

However, people are advised to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning strikes and follow traffic advisories in urban areas till 0830 hrs IST of tomorrow, as the IMD regional centre issued Orange and Yellow alerts for several Odisha districts.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD stated, “Maximum temperatures observed marked fall at many places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha, at a few places over the districts of South Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of North Interior Odisha, appreciable fall at many places over the districts of South Coastal Odisha and North Interior Odisha and at a few places over the districts of South Interior Odisha and North Coastal Odisha and no large change at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha. They were markedly below normal at most places over the districts of Interior Odisha and at many places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, appreciably below normal at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, below normal at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and normal at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha.”

Temperature forecast: No large change in the Maximum (day) temperature during the next 24 hours and rise by 8°C to 10°C at most places over the districts of Odisha. No large change in the Minimum (night) temperature during the next 24 hours and rise by 3°C to 5°C in the subsequent four to five days at most places over the districts of Odisha.

The highest maximum temperature of 31.0°C was recorded at Nayagarh and the lowest minimum temperature of 12.6°C was recorded at Angul in the plains of Odisha.

For Wednesday (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 21.03.2024)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and at many places over the districts of Keonjhar, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and at a few places over the rest districts of Odisha.

Orange Warning (Be Prepared) –

Heavy rainfall is very likely (7cm to 11cm) at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh and Gajapati.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated) –

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

For Thursday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 21.03.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 22.03.2024)

Light rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, and dry weather is likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
