Weather Warning: Thunderstorm, hail & lightning in Odisha till Jan 14

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Regional Centre here today cautioned that thunderstorm accompanied with hail and lightning is likely to lash over 20 districts across the state till January 14.

In the latest bulletin, the Regional MeT Centre said, “Under the influence of mid and upper tropospheric westerlies and interaction with low level easterlies and also moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, light to moderate rainfall activity is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Odisha till January 14.”

The weathermen also predicted that isolated thunderstorm accompanied with hail and heavy rain is likely to occur in some districts of the state during the period. Some impact on agriculture is expected due to the weather phenomenon, the MeT centre added.

The MeT Centre issued Yellow Warning for over 20 districts till January 14:

Yellow Warning (valid till 8.30 am of January 13):  Thunderstorm with lightening is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

Forecast: Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal and at many places over the rest districts.

Yellow Warming (from 8.30 am of Jan 13 till 8.30 am of Jan 14): Thunderstorm with lightening and hail
is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balangir, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Ganjam.

Besides, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Rayagada and Ganjam.

Forecast: Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha.
