Cuttack: Punjilal Meher, the Mastermind of Patnagarh wedding gift blast, was released from Balangir Jail here today after the Orissa High Court granted him a four-day interim bail yesterday.
On January 22, the court granted him bail for four days from January 24 to January 28 for conducting post-funeral rites of his mother Indumati, who passed away on January 10. It has also asked Punjilal not to speak to Media during the bail period. Besides, the court has also directed the local police station to keep a strict vigil on him. He will again be produced before the court at 11 am on January 28.
Punjilal, who is lodged at Balangir Jail for the last two years, had performed the last rites of his mother on January 11 after getting a one-day parole from of Patnagarh Additional District Judge.
Worth mentioning, Punjilal, who was working as a lecturer at Jyoti Vikash College in Balangir, had developed rivalry with his colleague Sanjukta Sahu, who replaced him as the Principal. He allegedly sent a parcel bomb as a wedding gift for Sanjukta’s son to take revenge. Sanjukta’s son Soumya Sekhar and mother-in-law Jemanai were killed when they opened the parcel on February 23, 2018.
