Weekend holidays cancelled for Odisha Govt staff in cyclone-hit districts

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today cancelled the weekend holidays for the government employees in the Cyclone FANI-hit districts for relief and restoration work.

As per the order, all the government offices in Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts will remain opened on second Saturday and Sunday i.e. May 11 and 12.

Worth mentioning, the power and water restoration process is in full swing in the cyclone-battered districts after FANI devastation in Odisha. The NDRF and State’s ODRAF teams have been deployed to clear the roads.

According to the Situation Report on Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm FANI released by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), the road communication in Ganjam and Gajapati is completely restored. The road clearance and restoration works in other districts including Bhubaneswar city is underway.

Meanwhile, the power has been restored in 80% areas in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack by May 9 evening.

In view of the serious disruption of power supply, transport, telecommunication and internet services, additional support has been rushed for immediate restoration. Additional teams for road clearance, police for law & order, distribution of dry foods and polythenes mobilized to the districts.

The government has evacuated 14,70,197 persons and kept them at various shelter houses. Total 24,889 tourists were safely evacuated from Puri, Ganjam, Cuttack and Balasore districts.

Even after massive destruction, the trains were operational from Bhubaneswar on May 5. All the trains both passenger and express trains will resume to normalcy from May 12.
