Weekend shutdown in 4 Odisha dists; hefty fine for COVID-19 violations

Bhubaneswar: Weekend shutdown will be imposed in Khordha, Ganjam, Gajapati, Cuttack districts and Rourkela Municipal Corporation area of Odisha till August 31, the state government announced today while issuing guidelines for Unlock-3.

However, the shutdown will be imposed from 1 pm on August 1 and 2 in these areas.

The government also hiked the penalty amount for COVID-19 norms violations. Fine for not wearing mask will attract a penalty of Rs 1000 for first two violations and Rs 5000 for subsequent violations.

Congregation of over 50 people (including bride and groom) at marriage ceremonies will attract a fine of Rs 10,000 with the sealing of the venue. A penalty of Rs 10,00 will be imposed on the head of the office/owner for social distancing violations at workplace/shop.

The establishment will be sealed for a week for first violation and for a month for repeat violations.

The government also declared the resumption of night curfew across the state from 9 pm to 5 am till August 31. It also announced that yoga centres and gyms will reopen from August 5.

Academic institutions, auditoriums, sport and cultural complexes, cinema halls, swimming pools will remain closed till August 31. Religious, political and cultural gatherings have been prohibited during the period.
