Well-marked low pressure: Heavy to very heavy rain in Odisha in next 4 days

Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in several parts in Odisha with the weathermen issuing  Orange and Yellow  warnings for the next four days after the low pressure formed over north Andaman Sea and adjoining East Central Bay of Bengal intensified into well marked low pressure area early this morning.

The well marked low pressure area now lies over eastcentral and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal.

The special bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Regional Centre said, “The associated cyclonic circulation extends upto mid-tropospheric levels. It is very likely to concentrate into a depression over central Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours. There is also a possibility that the system may further intensify into a deep depression during subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh coast during October 12 forenoon/noon.”

In view of the development, the MeT centre has predicted heavy rainfall for the below districts in the next five days.

Day 1 (valid till 8.30 AM of Oct 11)

Yellow warning:

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Ganjam and Puri.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha.

Day 2 (from 8.30 AM on Oct 11 till 8.30 PM on Oct 12)

Yellow warning:

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Rayagada, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri and Koraput.

Besides, light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of south Coastal Odisha, at many places over the districts of south interior Odisha and north coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of north interior Odisha.

Day 3 (from 8.30 AM on Oct 12 till 8.30 PM on Oct 13)

Orange Warning

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Rayagada and Koraput.

Yellow Warning :
Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Bhadrak.

Besides, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of south coastal Odisha and at many places over the rest districts.

Day 4 (from 8.30 AM on Oct 13 till 8.30 PM on Oct 14)

Yellow  warning :

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Gajapati and Rayagada.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of south Odisha, north coastal and at a few places over the districts of north interior Odisha.

Day 5 (from 8.30 AM on Oct 14 till 8.30 PM on Oct 15)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of south Odisha and at a few places over the districts of north Odisha.

Meanwhile, fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas of Central Bay of Bengal from today. And those in deep sea are advised to return to coast by tonight. Fishermen are also advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha Coast from October 11 to October 13.
