Well marked low pressure likely to concentrate into Depression; Orange Warning for next 3 days

Bhubaneswar: Due to the prevalent monsoon trough and a low pressure area formed, heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places in three districts of Odisha during next 24 hours. India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre today issued Orange Warning in some districts for next three days and Yellow Warning for two more days thereafter.

In its evening bulletin, the IMD regional centre mentioned, “The Well Marked Low Pressure Area over central parts of North Bay of Bengal with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 9.5 Km above mean sea level persists. It is likely to move northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression during next 12 hours.”

The Western end of the Monsoon Trough at mean sea level runs close to foothills of Himalayas and Eastern end now passes through Darbhanga, Deoghar, Canning, center of Well Marked Low Pressure Area over central parts of North Bay of Bengal and thence southeastwards to eastcentral Bay of Bengal.

The north-south trough from Bihar to the cyclonic circulation associated with the Well Marked Low Pressure Area over central parts of North Bay of Bengal between 0.9 and 3.1 Km above mean sea level has become less marked.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha.

The highest maximum (day) temperature of 35.7oC was recorded at Gopalpur and the lowest minimum (night) temperature of 22.0oC was recorded at Phulbani in the plains of Odisha.

Orange Warning (Be Prepared)- Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak .

Yellow Warning (Be Updated)- Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Koraput.

For Tuesday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 01.08.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 02.08.2023)

Orange Warning (Be Prepared)- Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Sundargarh, Cuttack and Balasore.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated)- Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Bolangir and Nuapada.
