West Bengal cattle trader shot dead in Odisha; Rs 20 lakh looted

Baripada: Unidentified miscreants opened fire at two cattle traders from West Bengal leaving one of them dead, before decamping with Rs 20 lakh at Hatbadra village under Rural police limits in Rairangpur block of Mayurbhanj district today.

The deceased has been identified as Jamus Alli of Kambali police station in West Bengal.

Sources said traders from neighbouring West Bengal come to Hatbadra to buy cattle on a frequent basis. At around 7 am today, four miscreants came and opened three rounds of fire at two West Bengal based traders at the cattle market. They later decamped with Rs 20 lakh cash from their possession.

Jamus Alli, who collapsed on the ground soon after the firing, was later declared dead by doctors at Rairangpur hospital. The bullet is believed to have hit his chest, sources said.

Meanwhile, local police have registered a case, sent the body for post-mortem and initiated an inquiry in connection with the incident.
