Western disturbance: Rain likely in Odisha from Dec 27

Bhubaneswar: Amidst chilling winter, Odisha may witness rain from December 27 due to western disturbance, forecast the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.

Under influence of western disturbance, light to moderate rain or thundershower likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Sambalpur and Deogarh between December 27 and 28.

The amount of rainfall may increase slightly on December 28 and 29.

As per the MeT forecast, light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Sundargarh during December 28 and 29.

However, dry weather very likely to prevail over rest of districts during the period.

What is western disturbance:

A western disturbance is an extratropical storm originating in the Mediterranean region. It triggers sudden winter rain in the northern parts of Indian subcontinent and extends upto east and northern parts of Bangladesh and southeastern Nepal. It is a non-monsoonal precipitation pattern driven by the westerlies.
