Western Odisha Development Council gets Rs 325-crore grants for 2023-24 fiscal

Bhubaneswar: The state government has enhanced the grant-in-aid (GIA) for the Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) to Rs 325 crore from Rs 200 crore in the Budget for 2023-24 fiscal.

This was revealed at the 61st council meeting of WODC here today. WODC Chairman Asit Tripathy thanked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for enhancing GIA for the council in the 2023-24 financial year.

As many as 566 projects worth Rs 54.81 crore, recommended by the MPs/MLAs/others, were approved at the 61st council meeting of the WODC, sources said.

Proposals for completion of as many as 1,147 community centres/Kalyan Mandaps in Western Odisha also got approval at the meeting. The WODC will spend Rs 64.24 crore for execution of these projects. Besides, the council also gave its approval for the engagement of four more technical personnel for different districts in Western Odisha and creation of a social media cell for the WODC, sources added.

WODC Chairman put emphasis on timely completion of livelihood, tourism and other projects taken up by the council.

Deogarh MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi, Lanjigarh MLA Pradip Kumar Dishari, Bargarh MLA Debesh Acharya and Khariar MLA Adhiraj Panigrahi participated in the meeting and raised various issues regarding the implementation of WODC projects.

The MLAs also expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for enhancing the GIA for the WODC.

WODC CEO Ajit Kumar Mishra, Northern Division RDC Suresh Chandra Dalai and Southern Division RDC T. Ao were also present at the meeting.
