Western Odisha lawyers call for shutdown tomorrow for HC bench

Sambalpur: Demanding establishment of a permanent High Court bench in western Odisha, bar associations in the region today called for a 12-hour bandh on Wednesday. According to members of the bar associations, there will be complete shutdown in Sambalpur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Nuapada and Sundergarh districts. But the Kalahandi lawyers’ association has decided to observe a partial ‘bandh’ in the district while extending its support to the demand.

Sambalpur Lawyer’s Association Secretary Praveen Sighdeo said lawyers will stage rail roko at City railway station and Khetrajpur railway station. They will also urge government offices, educational institutions and business establishments to remain closed during the bandh.

Praveen added the agitators will also stage picketing in front of the main gate of MCL.

Earlier in the day, the lawyers took out a bike rally from Kacheri Chhak in Sambalpur town and created awareness about the need for setting up of a permanent HC bench.
