What’s Shrimandira Parikrama Plan?

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Legislative Assembly today unanimously cleared Shrimandira Parikrama plan in the  House today.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik presented the resolution in the House through video conference.

He said, “The greatest identity of Odia community is Lord Jagannath. Our history, culture, tradition and belief system are all centered on Almighty. He is the symbol of Odia esteem and pride.”

All devotees, who come to the Jagannath Temple in Puri to see the Lord, have a desire in their hearts to see deities in a calm, beautiful and spiritual environment. Visiting the Jagannath Temple once in a lifetime and getting glimpse of the Lord is the only prayer of millions of devotees. It is the responsibility of all of us to come back with a divine feeling, he said.

The members of opposition parties both BJP and Congress welcomed the resolution for development of Puri Srimandir as well as Odia culture.

Hailing the resolution, senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra said, “Congress party supports Shrimandira Parikrama Plan for maintaining the culture and heritage as well as history of Odisha.”

As per the Shrimandira Parikarama Plan, entire area within 75 metre around the Jagannath Temple will be transformed into heritage corridor to attract millions of devotees from across the world.

Attending the budget session of Odisha Assembly through video conference, CM Patnaik said that three objectives were considered for Srimandir Parikrama Yojana when Justice BP Das Committee had recommended for Srimandir Security Corridor. The recommendations were — safety of Srimandir, safety of millions of devotees visiting the temple for darshan of deities and creation of spiritual atmosphere for devotees.

The Shrimandira Parikrama Plan has been prepared following several discussions with the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration  and various stakeholders. The plan was approved at a meeting chaired by Gajapati King on February 15 and sent to the Government for final nod.

Patnaik extended his gratitude to Gajapati King for the sacred work and servitors as well as people of Puri for taking forward the plan. He also thanked Padma Vibhushan Raghunath Mohapatra and Dr. Subash Pani and many veterans who have encouraged the Government by contributing immensely to the proposal.

He said that the Shrimandira Parikrama Yojana is not only just a plan of the Government, but also it is the plan for 4.50 crore people of Odisha.

Speaking more about the plan, Patnaik said, “Srimandir is the center of our spiritual heritage, which we have inherited from generation to generation. We have preserved this priceless treasure for our future descendants in the legacy. We have to look into the Shrimandira Parikrama Plan with this spirit and make it happen with collective efforts.”

He presented three proposals in the resolution for consideration. The proposals are:

  1. We need to take a vow to complete the Shrimandira Parikrama Plan with dedication at the earliest.
  2. To give a chance to all Odias and devotees of Lord Jagannath who want to contribute to this sacred act.
  3. To extend gratitude to people of Puri Town who have sacrificed for the Shrimandira Parikrama Plan.

The resolution was passed by a voice vote in the House.
