When will lane driving be implemented in Odisha?

Bhubaneswar: Principal Secretary to Government Madhu Sudan Padhi has written to the Odisha DGP regarding  submission of a report over the implementation of lane driving guidelines in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The report will be submitted before the Supreme Court for apprising it on the progress of the implementation.

Strict implementation of lane driving regulations is of paramount importance for reduction of accidents and fatalities in the state, the official said in the letter.

For compliance of the direction of the apex court, steps may be taken for implementation of lane driving guidelines in Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police area in the first phase for safety of road users and to reduce traffic congestion. Subsequently, lane driving guidelines may be implemented in other cities and highways, Padhi said.

In 2017, the Supreme Court has asked all the states and UTs to strictly implement Motor Vehicles (Driving) Regulations, which mandates the lane driving and also provides for the protocol for overtaking.
