White tigress Bijaya dies at Nandankanan Zoo

Bhubaneswar: White tigress Bijaya, who was ailing for over a past week, died while undergoing treatment at Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) on outskirts of Bhubaneswar city today.

Bijaya was undergoing treatment in a special isolation ward at Nandankanan due to age-related ailments. Two veterinarians from the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry affiliated to Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) had visited the zoo for her check-up after her health condition deteriorated today. However, she succumbed during treatment, informed the NZP authorities today.

Last year, the white tigress had delivered three cubs at the zoo.

With death of Bijaya, the number of white tigers at Nandankanan slipped to 5.
