Why Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s Odisha fans are sweeping city clean?

Bhubaneswar: Love for their popular actor isn’t always marked by frenzied overflow of emotions. Some have sane way of channelizing their energy with a social message. Meet the Odisha Akkians, the fans of Bollywood megastar Akshay Kumar, who are on a mission.

Around 12 members of this fan club, wearing their love for the actor on their t-shirts, were recently seen sweeping the premises of Dhauli Peace Pagoda while promoting the upcoming movie of their favourite actor, ‘Padman’.

“This was not a one-off thing. We are planning to do so at different places of importance in the city every Sunday. Khandagiri is our next destination,” said Siddhant Swain, a member of Odisha Akkians.

Not surprisingly, Akshay Kumar is the inspiration behind this effort of theirs. A guest write-up by the actor in a national Hindi daily on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan triggered this idea.

The fan club was formed on August 26 last year with seven members, the number has swelled and so has the activities in the last one year. “We would watch the first-day-first-show of Akshay’s movies wearing the specially made t-shirts and carry banners to the theatre proclaiming our love for the actor. We celebrated his birthday in a grand manner at an orphanage on September 9 this year,” he said.

The members had once travelled to Delhi to meet Akshay and got back a t-shirt signed by him. They also flaunt his initials ‘AK’ in their new hairstyle.

However, this is not the only fan club of Bollywood actors in Odisha. The other two clubs, which are active and posting pictures and messages regularly on Facebook are that of Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor.

Hrithik Roshan Fun Club – Odisha posts personal pictures shared by the actor on their page, along with his dance videos, funny GIFs, even as the members patiently wait for his November 2018 release, ‘Super 30’.

Besides pictures and updates, Ranbir Kapoor Fan Club -Odisha had posted a heartfelt note asking people to not go by the reviews of  ‘Jagga Jasoos’ and instead watch the movie in theatre and decide for themselves.
