Cuttack: A widow and her four-year-old daughter sustained critical injuries after allegedly being stabbed by her relative on premises of a temple in Khuntuni area of Cuttack district.

The victims have been identified as Kalpana Goachhayat and her daughter Payal from Dhenkanal district. They have been admitted to the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack for treatment.

According to reports, Kalpana of Dudurkote village under Balimi police limits, works with a firm in Dhenkanal. On Friday evening, one of her relatives (brother-in-law) reached their house and told them to get ready to visit their village. On pretext of going to Dudurkote, he took them on his motorcycle to a temple at Dwarabatipur village under Khuntuni police limits on Cuttack-Sambalpur road.

He allegedly attacked the mother-daughter duo with a knife with injuring them severely inside the temple campus and fled from the spot on his two-wheeler. While Kalpana suffered a deep wound to her head, face and left palm, her daughter Payal sustained injuries on her back.

After hearing screams of the victims, the locals rushed to the place and rescued them in critical condition. The police sent the victims duo to Athagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital for primary treatment from where they were shifted to the SCB Hospital in Cuttack, informed Khuntuni Police Station IIC Suchitrabirya Das today.
