Widow attacked with knife for spurning man’s advances in Odisha village, accused held

Sources said Dillip was romantically inclined towards Rita, who belonged to the same village, and was making advances at her for a while. Rita however was not reciprocating.

Rairakhol: In a shocking incident, a widowed woman had a close escape after she was allegedly attacked by a man for spurning his advances in Sambalpur district of Odisha. The man, identified as Dillip Behera (35)  of Pradhanpalli village under Charmal police limits, has been arrested after the victim Rita Kuku (40) filed a police complaint on Sunday.

Sources said Dillip was romantically inclined towards Rita, who belonged to the same village, and was making advances at her for a while. Rita however was not reciprocating. On Saturday evening, Dillip on finding Rita alone, again tried to convince her for an illicit relationship. When the latter turned down his proposal, Dillip got infuriated and attacked her with a knife. Rita however managed to escape. The following day, Dillip again turned up at Rita’s place and threatened to kill her while attacking her once again with a sharp weapon.  On hearing Rita’s screams, locals rushed to her rescue but Dillip managed to flee the spot.

Later, Rita reached out to the local police and filed a complaint basing on which Dillip was tracked down and arrested.  A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. The accused has been held and produced in court. He was remanded in judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected, police informed.
