Wife, paramour held for killing husband in Odisha’s Gajapati

The deceased was identified as Krushna Chandra Behera of Bomkei village and the accused his wife Sasmita along with her lover Shankar Saran Gouda, a garment trader in Mohana block. 

Gajapati: Police has arrested a woman and her paramour on the charges of killing the former’s husband in R.Udayagiri of Odisha’s Gajapati district here today. The deceased was identified as Krushna Chandra Behera of Bomkei village of Digapahandi block in Ganjam, and the accused his wife Sasmita along with her lover Shankar Saran Gouda, a garment trader in Mohana block here.

The duo was nabbed after cops recovered the decomposed body of Behera from a sack in Mankadia canal in R Udaygiri. Behera had gone missing from December 19 after which family members had reached out to the police. As the probe got underway, preliminary investigation revealed that Behera was murdered by his wife and her love interest as he had got to know about their affair and was posing a hindrance to their relationship.

As per reports, Sasmita and Shankar were in a relationship since college days. However, Sasmita got married to Behera. As Shankar used to visit Sasmita at her in-laws place often after the marriage, Behera got suspicious. After getting to know that Sasmita and Shankar were romantically involved, he reportedly threatened her with dire consequence. This prompted Sasmita and Shankar to hatch a plan to get rid of Behera and they murdered him.

Commenting on the issue, Police said a case has been registered. Both the accused had confessed to the crime during interrogation and are being quizzed for further details.
