Will COVID 3rd wave have less impact? Here’s what Odisha top official says

Odisha needs to intensify vaccination against COVID-19 ahead of impending third wave.

Bhubaneswar: With continuous decline in daily COVID-19 cases across the country, experts have started analysing possible intensity of impending third wave.

A top public health official in Odisha clarified that the impact of deadly variants will be less dangerous in third wave than second wave.

“Many countries are witnessing third wave and it may hit India too. Odisha is well-prepared to tackle the situation. In the midst of pandemic, the reassuring news is that the effect of third wave is less dangerous than the second wave,” said Odisha Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra.

“However, we need to intensify the vaccination against COVID-19 ahead of impending third wave. As much as the Centre will supply vaccines to the State, we will continue the drive accordingly,” he told reporters.

His analysis is based on observation of intensity of novel coronavirus in third wave that hit several countries in recent past days.

Speaking on use of steroids in treatment of COVID, the official said that the drug will be administered as per the guidelines issued by the Centre.

“In Odisha, the steroids are being used for treatment of COVID patients requiring the oxygen support. The drug has both good and side effects. The use of the medicine is not new. The steroids are being administered here in case of mild to critically ill COVID patients,” Mishra said.
