Will COVID 3rd wave hit country? Here’s what Odisha top official says

Bhubaneswar: While speculations are rife about the possibility of ‘third wave’, there is no sign of impending crisis in the country yet, said a top health official here today.

“The possibility of a ‘third wave’ is lurking. Even its timing and impact can not be predicted now,” said DMET Director Dr. CBK Mohanty.

Speaking about single-day COVID tally, which is between 1600 and 2000 in the country, he said that the same trend is also seen in other countries.

“Even as the TPR is still higher in a few districts of Odisha, it has declined significantly as compared to previous days,” Dr. Mohanty said.

On increasing number of daily COVID deaths in the State, he said, ” As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), the treatment should be given the top priority and the number of deaths is counted at the end of the pandemic. Different States including Odisha have also adopted this method.”

He said that the Government may start unlocking process after reviewing the situation.

“We will oversee the present COVID situation from all angles. The decision will be taken in view of the infection rate, patients’ number and observance of COVID-19 guidelines by people,” the health official stated.
