Jeypore: At least 13 air-conditioned (A/C) buses and two non-A/C buses worth crores of rupees, which were earlier purchased under much-debated LAccMI scheme, have been discarded and are getting rusted and unusable at the government bus stand premises in Jeypore town of Koraput district.

According to a source, six of the A/C buses were registered with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Jeypore. The remaining seven A/C buses were brought with provisional registration. More than three months have passed since the registration of vehicles. Route permits for the buses have not been obtained yet.

Worth mentioning, two Volvo buses were also purchased nearly two years ago and are lying neglected.

The LAccMI scheme of the former BJD government is likely to be renamed by the new government.

Around 46 government buses are presently plying between different panchayat headquarters and block headquarters in Koraput district under the LAccMI scheme. Two more buses are running from Bandhugaon and Kotapad to the district headquarters.
