The Speaker adjourned the Assembly for an indefinite period after a nine-day business was transacted in the House.

Treasury bench chief whip Ananta Das moved a motion to cut short the session which was opposed by Opposition chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati. The motion was moved after the Appropriation Bill on First Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for the year 2016-17 was passed.

In the winter session of the Assembly, four bills were passed and discussion on one adjournment motion was held.

While the session beginning from December 1 was to end on December 31, the Opposition criticized the government for abrupt ending.

“We did not support the motion for adjourning sine die,” Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said.

On the other hand, senior BJP MLA KV Singh Deo tweeted: “Decision to adjourn Odisha Assembly sine die without consulting the opposition displays dictatorial approach of @Naveen_Odisha.”
