Woman, aide held for duping college students with fake job promises  

Puri: A 28-year-old woman and her associate were arrested and sent to jail for allegedly duping two college students of Rs 20,000 in Astaranga of Puri district by assuring them of employment in Bhubaneswar.

The Astaranga police arrested the accused identified as Dibya Bharati Jena and Somya Ranjan Sahani and later sent them to Nimapara Sub-jail.

It is alleged that Dibya and Somya Ranjan used to collect hefty money and educational certificates from college students on the pretext of providing jobs in Bhubaneswar. The matter came to light when family members of two girl students at Balidiha village in Astaranga lodged a police complaint.

The accused duo had collected Rs 20,000 from the family members by assuring them to help the two girls enrolled in a BTech college and provide jobs later on. When the accused did not respond to their repeated calls, the family members lodged a complaint at Lingaraj police station in Bhubaneswar. The cops later informed the Astaranga police about the incident.

The Astaranga police swung into action and arrested the accused duo from Bhubaneswar. The accused are being interrogated and further investigation into the incident is on, police said.
