Woman along with paramour killed her husband in Odisha’s Gajapati, both accused held

Gajapati: Local cops cracked the mystery of a murder in which a woman along with her paramour allegedly killed her husband at Totagumuda village under Gurandi police limits in Gajapati district, said Superintendent of Police Swathy S Kumar in a presser held here today.

The victim youth’s body was recovered on March 29 near a paddy field at Totagumuda. The deceased was identified as M Lingaraju, his wife as K Jayalakshmi, and the accomplice as N Upendra.

Lingaraju was an employee of the Minor Irrigation (MI) department in the district.

According to the SP, Jayalakshmi and Upendra had hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Lingaraju forever, since the woman got married to the victim youth. As per the plan, the accused woman killed him for her love interest just about four months after their wedding.

“Upendra had asked Lingaraju to come along with him to consume liquor together. Both travelled on a motorcycle and on the way, the accused man initially stabbed the victim with a screwdriver on his neck, while the two-wheeler was moving. Both of them fell from the vehicle and then again the youth was stabbed almost 25 times on his chest and 27 times on his back. The accused man fled from the spot soon after committing the crime,” Gajapati SP stated.

“CCTV footage showing that Lingaraju and Upendra travelled on a motorcycle has been obtained. Police have seized mobile phones of Lingaraju, Jayalakshmi, and Upendra, a motorcycle used in the crime, a gold chain and a ring which was taken away by the accused man following the murder, and dresses of Upendra worn on the intervening day, including the weapon of crime,” the senior cop expressed.

“During the detailed probe, it was known that Lingaraju had been in depression since his marriage. This information led us to suspect Jayalakshmi and verify her call records (CDR),” the SP added while briefing mediapersons.

The two accused will be forwarded to court later in the day.
