Woman among 2 arrested for circulating fake currency notes in Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: A man and a woman were arrested today for circulating fake currency notes in Balasore.

The arrested man has been identified as 60-year-old Purnachandra Nayak from Nayapatana village of Santaragadia under Nilagiri police limits and the woman as 50-year-old Binapani Mukhi from Saharpur village of Soro under Khaira police limits in the district, said SP Sagarika Nath in a presser.

According to police sources, accused Purnachandra had purchased foreign liquor from the complainant shopkeeper on August 22 by paying him Rs 3,000 fake currency notes. While the latter was closing his shop and counting the notes, he came to know that those six notes of Rs 500 denomination were fake currencies. The accused also purchased some other items from the market by paying fake notes.

During the investigation, a team of cops led by Nilagiri SDPO and Inspector-in-charge (IIC) of the local PS was able to apprehend the male person, who confessed that the lady from Soro and one more accused from Jajpur district had provided those fake currency notes to him for business purpose.

Based on the accused man’s information, Binapani was also apprehended. “Steps are being taken to apprehend the male accused from Jajpur soon,” the SP expressed while briefing mediapersons.

Nilagiri police recovered and later seized fake notes of Rs 32,700 (47 numbers of currency notes in the denomination of Rs 100, 45 numbers in the denomination of Rs 200, including 38 numbers in Rs 500).

The police team also seized two mobile phones from the possession of the accused persons.
