Woman among 3 killed in lightning strikes in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: At least three persons, including a woman, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Odisha today.

The deceased have been identified as Dubur Pradhan and Shantanu of Patapur area in Ganjam district and Amrita Pradhan of Ghumusar area in Kandhamal district.

Lightning struck Duburu and Shantanu while they were taking shelter under a mango tree at Patapur Gandhi Square during nor’wester rain in the afternoon.

The duo fell unconscious at the spot. On being informed, a team of the Patapur police rescued the duo and rushed them to a hospital at Digapahandi. However, they were declared brought dead by the doctors.

In the second incident, lightening struck Amrita, the wife of Manoj Kumar Pradhan, of Katingia panchayat while she was returning home after grazing her goats in a nearby forest in the afternoon. She was immediately rushed to Udayagiri Community Health Centre (CHC) in a critical condition. However, the 35-year-old was declared dead on arrival by the doctor.
