Sambalpur: A woman Assistant Professor of the Sambalpur University leveled mental harassment allegations against a male colleague of her department.

In a complaint addressed to the Vice Chancellor of Sambalpur University, Dr Roshni Kujur, the Assistant Professor & Coordinator of the Political Science and Public Administration Department of the premier educational institute alleged that she has been mentally harassed by Dr Rajat Kumar Kujur since 2016.

Dr Rajat Kumar Kujur is the Assistant Professor of the Political Science Department at the university. As per the complaint, Dr Kujur is an alcoholic person and he ill-treated his female colleague in an inebriated condition during office hours.

"I have been mentally harassed for no reason by Dr Rajat Kumar Kujur in an intoxicated condition since I joined the department in 2016," the complaint filed by the victim read.

As per the complaint, Dr Rajat Kumar Kujur had complained earlier against Dr Roshni Kujur terming her as 'incapable', questioning the university authority on the decision to appoint her as the Coordinator of the department.

"If I am incompetent, how am I undertaking my responsibility in the University as Coordinator of SWAYAM, Chairman of the Board of Studies, Assistant Superintendent of Baitarani Ladies Hostel, Member of the Local Inquiry Committe, Committee Member for Scholarship Cell and Committee Member of Caste Discrimination?" Dr Roshni Kujur asked in the complaint.

Sharing details about the mental harassment incident, she mentioned that department had recently installed 4 ACs in each room of the faculty members. However, the ACs installed in rooms of staff members Dr Himanshu Sekhar Mishra and Dr Rajat Kumar Kujur got disfunction after some days. Following a complaint at the service centre, the company's technician repaired the AC of Dr Mishra on August 19 and assured to repair another AC very soon.

"On Aug 21, Dr Rajat Kumar Kujur came to me with a complaint regarding the AC of his room. I immediately communicated with Dr Mishra to track the status of repairing work and Dr Mishra instantly made a reminder call to the service centre in my presence, followed by another reminder call on the next day Aug 22 morning. We both have taken the prior responsibility to repair the AC and the same was communicated to Dr Kujur. I spite of such initiatives taken by the department, Dr Rajat Kumar Kujur constantly tortured me since 10 am on Aug 22 in intoxicated condition, harshly asking when the AC of his room be repaired," the Dr Roshni Kujur alleged.

"I feel very unsafe as a woman employee working in such an intoxicated environment in the department," she said in her complaint.

In the complaint, she requested the university authority to take relevant steps to protect the self-esteem of its women employees at workplace.
