Woman axed to death by brother-in-law in Odisha; accused detained

Dhenkanal: A woman was allegedly axed to death by her brother-in-law at Asurabandha village under Bhuban police limits in Dhenkanal district late last night.  However, the reason behind the alleged murder is yet to be ascertained.

The deceased has been identified as Lilly , wife of one Abhimanyu Mallick.

As per sources Abhimanyu  went to his farmland after having dinner at around 9 PM yesterday.  After a while, a neighbour rushed to him and informed him that his brother Rabindra killed the latter’s wife with an axe. On reaching the house, Abhimanyu found his wife in a pool of blood and brother Rabindra holding the sharp weapon.

Though Abhimanyu immediately rushed his wife to hospital by an ambulance, she was declared dead by the doctors.

On receiving information, police reached the spot and detained the accused besides initiating an investigation into the incident. However,  Abhimanyu  refused to have any previous enmity with his brother.
