Woman beaten to death by husband in Odisha; accused detained

Rourkela: The Plant Site Police in Rourkela today seized a decomposed woman body from a locked room. The deceased was identified as Sukumani Badaeka from Jhariabhaal slum in Sector-21.

Based on the allegation of the deceased’s family members, the police have detained the woman’s husband, Shyam Sundar Badaeka. The family members accused Shyam Sundar of beating Sukumani to death.

Shyam Sundar works as a worker at the Odisha Forest Development Corporartion. On Saturday night, Shyam Sundar had argument with wife Sukumani over some trivial issues. The arguments took an ugly turn when Shyam Sundar beat his wife to death. In fear of being caught, Shyam Sundar then threw Sukumani’s body in his house and locked it.

The accused did not return to his house since Saturday. He used to spend the nights at the house a security guard of OFDC.

When foul smell emanated from the locked house of Shyam Sundar, the neighbours informed the police today. In presence of a Magistrate, the police recovered the decomposed body from the house and sent it for post mortem.

After registering a murder case, the police launched an investigation.
