Woman beaten to death over alleged sorcery in Odisha’s Keonjhar; probe initiated

Anandapur: A middle-aged woman was allegedly killed by being severely beaten suspecting the victim to be a sorcerer when she was sleeping at her house in Baranga village under Ramachandrapur police limits and Anandapur subdivision in Keonjhar district, late yesterday night.

The deceased woman was identified as Doli Majhi, the wife of Hikina Majhi from the village.

According to a source, Doli was attacked by her younger sister-in-law identified as Sininga Majhi.

A relative of Sininga had earlier died from Jaundice a few days ago. Since then Sininga was suspecting that Doli had performed sorcery to kill the relative of the former woman. Irked by this, the accused attacked Doli leading to the latter’s untimely death, the source stated.

The family of Doli rescued her from a pool of blood and rushed her to a hospital in Anandapur for treatment in critical condition. However, doctors at the health facility declared her ‘brought dead’.

Doli’s son lodged an FIR today morning and acting on which police launched a probe.
