Woman bludgeoned to death by her husband over ‘extra-marital affair’ in Odisha’s Puri

Gop: A woman was allegedly bludgeoned to death by her husband with a pestle over her extra-marital affair with a paramour at Durgapur village of Sorabha panchayat under Gop police limits in Puri, last night. The incident came to the fore today after some locals brought it to the knowledge of cops.

The deceased woman was identified as Kalpana Sahoo and the accused man was identified as 38-year-old Debaraj Sahoo, who belongs to the village.

According to police sources, Kalpana allegedly had an illicit affair with a local youth. Debaraj and his wife were often indulging in altercations over this sensitive issue. On the intervening night, Debaraj saw his wife in an intense condition with her paramour. A verbal spat ensued between the husband-wife over an alleged extra-marital affair. Things took an ugly turn when, in a fit of rage, Debaraj attacked the woman. Kalpana sustained severe injuries on her head and collapsed on the ground.

Later, Kalpana succumbed to injuries on the spot following the attack, the official sources added.

On being informed, Gop police reached the spot and seized the woman’s body. A probe team registered a case in this connection and launched a probe into the death. Police have arrested Debaraj and a detailed probe is underway, a senior cop of Gop PS said.
