Woman brutally killed by husband in Odisha; accused held

Baripada: A woman was brutally killed allegedly by her drunk husband at Palasbadha village under Morada police limits in Mayurbhanj district late on Thursday.

The accused person has been identified as Shiva Prasad Mahanta, aged 52 years.

The family of the accused said that he is found in inebriated condition most of the time and his behaviour was abnormal in a past few days.

According to reports, Mahanta’s son Basant saw him attacking her wife Manjadori Mahanta (45) with an axe last night.

After losing mental balance, the drunk man allegedly hit her head with axe repeatedly following which his wife died on the spot.

Following the incident, his son narrated the nightmare to the family members. They found the blood stains and the deceased was lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

The villagers informed the police following which a probe has been initiated into the incident. The police sent the body for autopsy and arrested the accused husband on charges of murder.
