Bhubaneswar: A woman claiming to be the wife of a sitting MLA of Odisha, attempted to commit suicide by consuming phenyl (household disinfectant) in front of the State Assembly today.
According to reports, the woman, who claimed to be the wife of BJD MLA from Talcher Braja Kishore Pradhan was rescued by policemen on duty in front of the State Assembly which is currently in session.
The condition of the woman who was rushed to Capital Hospital by the police immediately was stated to be stable.
“The Mahila Police Station hasn’t acted even after 10-12 days of my lodging FIR with them. I want justice. If I have wronged I should be punished and if the MLA has wronged he should be punished. I do know that attempting suicide is a big offence but one won’t take such an extreme step unless one is hurt to that extent,” said the woman to reporters at Capital Hospital who queried why she had attempted to commit suicide.
The 30-year old woman had earlier attempted to commit suicide by slashing her left wrist with a blade on Thursday last week after having been prevented by security personnel to enter Naveen Niwas to meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Then too, she was rushed to Capital Hospital by the security personnel.
The woman had earlier claimed that Pradhan had befriended her in December 2014 after her phone had mistakenly got connected to him and later they had got married in Jagannath Temple in Puri.
The woman had alleged that the BJD MLA had ditched her after she came to know about the legislator’s affairs with another woman and had protested against that.
Notably, the woman has also registered a case against Pradhan at the SDJM Court here in May this year.
