Woman collapses, dies during husband’s funeral in Odisha’s Ganjam

Bhubaneswar: A 57-year-old woman collapsed and died during the funeral of her husband in Odisha’s Ganjam district today.

The deceased couple has been identified as Devraj Mahapatra (62) and his wife Sanjulata Mahapatra of Barapalli village under Belaguntha block in Ganjam.

Devraj was suffering from certain illness for the last few months and he died while being treated at a hospital at Bhanjanagar today morning, sources said.

Sanjulata collapsed and died while accompanying her relatives to the village cremation ground to attend Devraj’s last rites, sources added.

“The mortal remains of both Devraj and Sanjulata were consigned to flames side by side. The couple is survived by their two sons, who are now working in Surat,” said a villager.
