Woman commits suicide in Odisha’s Nabarangpur over sharing of mutton curry

Raighar: A 25-year-old woman reportedly committed suicide after she was scolded by her mother over sharing of mutton curry at Gurusingha village under Raighar police limits in Nabarangpur district.

The deceased has been identified as Aruna Majhi, police said.

According to sources, Aruna and her two elder sisters cooked mutton curry yesterday (Saturday) night. The three sisters reportedly ate the mutton curry without sharing the same with their mother.

Miffed over the attitude of the three sisters, their mother scolded them. “You have already started neglecting me. What will happen to me during my old age,” the three sisters were told by their mother.

Unable to digest her mother’s scolding, Aruna reportedly tried to commit suicide by hanging herself with a dupatta. She was rushed to Umarkote hospital in a critical condition.

Later, she was shifted to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) as her condition deteriorated. She died while being treated at the DHH today (Sunday), sources said.

“We have seized the body and sent it for postmortem after registering an unnatural death case in this regard,” said an official of Raighar police.
