Woman dead, husband critically injured after Hyva truck hits scooter in Odisha’s Khurda

Khurda: A woman was killed today and her husband sustained grievous injuries as a scooter on which they were travelling had a head-on collision with a Hyva truck near Dumuni temple at Badaberena on Begunia-Baghamari-Dhalapathar road in Khurda district.

Identities of the deceased and the injured have not been ascertained yet.

According to a source, the couple was on their way to Bhubaneswar when they met with an accident. The man was rescued by some locals and rushed to a hospital for treatment in critical condition.

“An ill-fated two-wheeler was dragged up to a distance of around 50 metres by a Hyva truck after the fatal road mishap. A middle-aged woman was run over by the speeding truck and she died on the spot in the incident,” an eyewitness expressed.

Tension erupted on the spot following the accident and incensed locals staged a roadblock demanding adequate compensation to the deceased’s next of kin. Vehicular movement on the road was completely disrupted for quite a long time.
