Titlagarh: Chaos prevailed at Titlagarh Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) in Odisha's Balangir district after a woman patient died due to alleged medical negligence today. The deceased was identified as Binodini Chhatar (25), wife of Bimal Chhatar of Sihini village here. She had recently delivered a stillborn child and was having complications.

While the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, family members alleged that Binodini was given the wrong injection as she died within five minutes after the doctor administered the drug. As per reports, Binodini was pregnant and was admitted to the MCH on February 2. However, the next day, the family was told that she had delivered a stillborn baby. As Binodini's developed health issues again, she was again admitted to the hospital.

On Thursday, as her condition deteriorated, the doctor on duty administered an injection to her in the morning but she reportedly breathed her last just minutes later. As the news spread, irate family members staged an agitation in the hospital.

On getting information, police reached the spot and tried to pacify them with assurances of strict action after discussion with medical authorities. Investigation has been initiated and the exact cause of death will be established after the postmortem report arrives. Necessary action will subsequently be taken, Titlagarh SDPO informed.
