Woman hacks brother-in-law to death in Odisha; surrenders

A 50-year tribal woman surrendered before the police at the Macchkund police station in Odisha’s Koraput district on Thursday after brutally hacking her brother-in-law (husband’s younger brother) to death and injuring her sister-in-law (husband’s sister) with an axe over a family dispute.

According to reports, the accused identified as Tulsa Hantal (50) of Anlaput village in Chickenput panchayat under Lamtaput block in Koraput hacked her brother-in-law Dhan Hantal to death with an axe while he was asleep late on Wednesday night. She had also attacked her sister-in-law Dasu Hantal with the axe while the latter was asleep. Luckily, she has survived the attack though with injuries and has been admitted to the Community Health Centre here where she is undergoing treatment.

On the same night after committing the crime, the accused surrendered before Macchkund police confessing to having killed her brother-in-law while alleging that he used to regularly subject her to mental torture.

Police have seized the body and have sent it for post-mortem, reports added.

Villagers, who were unaware of the incident in the night and knew about it in the morning on Thursday claimed that the woman and her brother-in-law often used to quarrel.
