Woman killed, son critical in wild boar attack in Odisha’s Sonepur

Bhubaneswar: A woman was killed and his son sustained critical injuries in wild boar attack near Rampur forest under Binika Range in Odisha’s Sonepur district today.

The deceased has been identified as Rekha Bagha (55) of Jharkadalipali village, sources said.

A wild boar from the forest attacked Rekha and her son Baladev (35) when they were collecting firewood from their farmland at Jharkadalipali, villagers said.

The mother-son duo sustained grievous injuries in the attack and was rushed to Binika Community Health Centre (CHC), where Rekha was declared dead on arrival, they added.

Later, Baladev was shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Sambalpur as his condition deteriorated, sources said.

The incident has triggered tension in the locality. The villagers have urged the Forest department to look into the incident and take appropriate action in this regard.
