Woman labourer killed in blast at cement factory in Odisha

Rajgangpur: A woman labourer was killed and three others injured in an explosion at a cement factory in Rajgangpur of Sundergarh district today. The deceased was identified as Rashmi Kujur of Kuturi village while identity of the injured is yet to be known.

As per reports, eight women labourers were working near line-3 blast furnace of OCL Cement factory since 8 am today. Following an explosion at around 4.30 pm, seven of them came out of the plant except Rashmi. Later she was rescued with burn injuries. While being taken to the Rourkela hospital, the woman labourer succumbed on the way.

The injured were rushed to the Primary Health Centre where first-aid treatment was given to them.

Around 10 years back, a mishap on the premises of the cement factory had occurred, during which three labourers had fallen into the factory’s tunnel leading to their death on the spot.

In its reaction, the company said, “We express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and will extend all help to them in this hour of grief. We are investigating the cause of the accident and are extending all cooperation to the local administration.”
