Woman Maoist dead, 20 others escaped during exchange of fire with SOG personnel

Baliguda: A woman Maoist was killed and around 20 others managed to escape during an exchange of fire with Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel in Sindhi forest bordering Kandhamal, today.

Acting on a tip-off about the existence of Maoist camp belonging to outlawed Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division, the team of SOG personnel led by Kandhamal Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinit Agrawal launched a combing operation in the dense forest, a police source said.

“Following the exchange of fire that started in the morning and continued for long hours, the female ultra member was killed. However, about twenty more red rebels fled from the spot,” a senior SOG official expressed.

Identity of the deceased Maoist has not been ascertained yet, the SOG official further said.

More details of the combing operation are awaited.
