Woman Maoist surrenders in Odisha’s Sundargarh

A woman Maoist carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head surrendered before police in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, police said today.

The woman armed cadre Maoist identified as Palo Honhanga laid down her arms before Sundargarh SP Anirudh Kumar Singh in the presence of CRPF personnel at district headquarters here yesterday.

The 42-year-old rebel from Baliba in West Singhbhum in neighbouring Jharkhand had joined the Maoist movement in 2012.

She said that she was forcibly inducted into the fold by one Rekha under the leadership of Chaman four years ago.

I was disillusioned by the Maoist ideology and the mindless killing of tribals, she added.

Sources said, Palo’s daughter Swapna had also joined the banned CPI (Maoist). She had surrendered before police on September 9 last year.
