Woman, minor daughter die by suicide in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Sambalpur: While the western Odisha was in a celebratory mood on the occasion of ‘Nuakhai’, a pall of gloom descended on Kinaloei village under Katarabaga police limits in Sambalpur district following a tragic incident. A woman and her six-year-old daughter ended their lives by jumping into a well in the village today afternoon.

The woman, identified as Tikeswari Bhoi (40) celebrated Nuakhai with her husband and two daughters at her house. But at around 2 pm, she came out of her house along with the six-year-old daughter and jumped into the nearby well.

Though some onlookers ran to the spot to save the mother-daughter duo, they failed to do so. Tikeswari and her daughter drowned in the well after falling into it.

After receiving information, the Fire Service personnel reached the spot and fished out the bodies.

A police official said preliminary investigation shows Tikeswari was mentally unstable. However, details will be known once the complete investigation is over, the official informed. The bodies will be sent for post mortem tomorrow.
