Chandbali: A woman and her minor female relative were allegedly beaten and dragged by police in front of Chandbali PS in Bhadrak district. A video of the act went viral on social media platforms today.
The victim woman was identified as Mita Sethi (22). Her relative (sister-in-law) is 14 years of age.
According to a source, the woman and her sister-in-law had gone to Chandbali police station to meet the former’s husband, who was earlier picked up by the police in connection with an incident. They were manhandled in the presence of several others, including public.
“A baby of the woman threw a shoe box into the premises while playing. A police constable named Rabi Sethi got annoyed with this and roughed up the woman. When the woman protested the police excess, she was dragged and was thrown out of the police station premises,” an eyewitness said.
“Even to the extent, the woman’s minor relative was not spared when she objected the police. She was also pushed away and beaten. The constable was assisted by an ASI named Nepali Saha. The entire act was captured through mobile phones by some youths who were present in the police station at that time,” the eyewitness expressed.
“The woman was dragged along with her 4-year-old baby on her lap,” the eyewitness added.
Meanwhile, the incident has been brought to the knowledge of Bhadrak Superintendent of Police (SP) Varun Guntupalli. Following which, Chandbali SDPO Kartik Chandra Mallick and IIC Panchanan Mohanty launched a detailed probe into the alleged act by police.
