Woman murdered over dowry demand in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: A woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws over dowry demand at Kantiokatani village under Tumusingha police limits in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district today.

As per a police complaint lodged by Kailash Majhi, father of the deceased woman, he was this morning informed by her in-laws that his daughter’s condition was being critical.

On reaching the spot, he was told that his daughter committed suicide by hanging herself. Suspecting foul play, he lodged an FIR alleging that her in-laws have murdered her demanding dowry.

Terming it as a case of dowry death instead of suicide, Majhi further alleged that his daughter was being tortured by her in-laws regularly over dowry demand.

Police have registered a case under sections 498 A, 303 B and 34 of the IPC & Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The body has been sent for post-mortem and investigation is underway.
