Woman shot at by her son over family feud in Odisha’s Nayagarh, critical

Dasapalla: A middle-aged woman sustained grievous bullet injuries today after being shot at by her son at Kalasa Khamana village under Banigochha police limits in Nayagarh district.

The injured has been identified as Duhita Pradhan from Kalasa Khamana village.

According to a police source, an altercation erupted between Duhita’s two sons Sushant and Sagar over a family matter. The woman’s elder son Sushant attempted to open fire at his younger brother with a country-made firearm. Seeing this, she opposed the act and asked her elder son to do so.

Things took an ugly turn when Duhita, in a bid to save her younger son, came to the front. As a result, she was hit by the bullet leaving her critically injured.

The injured woman was rescued by some locals and was admitted to the community health centre (CHC) in Dasapalla in critical condition. Later, she was shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Nayagarh town after her condition deteriorated.

On being informed, Banigochha police reached the spot and launched a probe.

“We have detained Sushant and he is being interrogated to gather more information,” a cop said.
